Information should be
transparent and accessible

timelinefyi.com starts as I discovered lots of life events in our day-to-day-life are not transparent enough. People get confused about what steps they should take, when they should start doing it, and when they would move forward to the next step. Sometimes, people even have to make unnecessary schedule or decision changes just to accommodate unexpected results caused by the lack of transparency. In those cases, timeline data from other people who undergo a similar process can be extremely helpful.

However, timeline information is not easy to locate, and people always have to dig deep into every corner of the internet to find some outdated timeline that might be relevant. One primary reason is social platforms nowadays are not anonymous enough to create an environment for people to freely exchange that information.

After reaching out to different groups of users, I confirmed that the majority of people are facing this concern and urgently need a solution. The market size is big enough for me to think about it seriously. So, armed with several years of engineering experience and naivety, I decided to architect a solution.

timelinefyi.com is an option-to-be-fully-anonymous platform where people can share their timeline information without worry. This platform also categorizes and visualizes all the timeline data over various attributes, which makes timeline data more accessible than ever. Every category of timelines has an associated community, and you can easily discover people who undergo a similar process with you. With the power of the data, this platform also equips your decision-making process with insights based on statistical analysis. With adequate information, your life would be much easier.

I want to bring my special thanks to Ashank Behara and Matthew Walowski for their advice throughout the entire process. This project is not possible without them. Also, they founded ShapeCI to redefine the hardware development workflow. Be sure to check that out! I also thank Siraj Chokshi for his UI/UX advice. Besides, I want to thank Jason HE for providing help when I needed it and Helen Fan for her hard work in designing and hand-drawing the logo for this platform. Helen Fan is also generous enough to release her design under a Creative Commons Sharealike license. You can download the original logo here, and feel free to use it wherever you like.
